Intermediate to Advanced (Classes may be mixed levels depending on student numbers.)

  • This course introduces academic skills and students will learn:
  • how to give clear and interesting presentations
  • how to use technology that is used in tertiary study
  • how to write essays and answer exam questions
  • how to take notes from lectures
  • This course introduces study skills and students will:
  • learn how to plan a study timetable
  • learn how to negotiate and express themselves in a tutorial practice new ways of studying and thinking
  • complete projects in groups
  • experience lectures
  • learn where and how to get help
  • learn how to use the library
  • The course focuses on exam preparation and students will:
  • learn about and understand internationally recognised exams
  • learn strategies and skills for exams
  • do exam practice
  • get feedback and extra practice

Placement

Minimum entry levels apply - IELTS 5.0 (or equivalent). Placement in a Academic English class will depend on level assessment. The EAP 1 level assessment can be taken overseas before arriving in New Zealand.

Assessment

Assessment is continuous throughout the course.
